This would be part of work to develop analyses based on the Earth System Data Cube in collaboration with Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry (MPI in Jena, DE) and the ESA Centre for Earth Observation (ESRIN in Frascati, IT).
My idea is to extend Gansser-Potts (2019)'s project and apply it globally. This will finally create the BASi that iLEAPS has been trying to derive since at least 2017. Even better would be if I could link this with the CEMAC indices derived through the CSSP-Brazil project (in which I am also peripherally involved).
I would also look at land-atmosphere coupling strength in drought-prone areas (extending my previous work on land-atmosphere coupling (Marthews et al. 2019, updated with new tools developed during Hydro-JULES), hopefully bringing in Paul Dirmeyer’s lab at George Mason University (COLA) too.
All of this hopefully in collaboration with Garry Hayman at UKCEH. Link to the CLEEPA app idea too.
At the 2021 iLEAPS Lite conference the BASi was mentioned, but at the moment I don't know anyone who has worked on it since Léa in 2019.

iLEAPS video by CEH (July 2018) The Integrated Land Ecosystem-Atmosphere Processes Study (iLEAPS) is a Global Research Project of Future Earth providing understanding of how interacting physical, chemical and biological processes transport and transform energy and matter through the land-atmosphere interface. See here for a graphic showing how the project has developed since 2004. |
I co-organised a BACI/BASi workshop Progress on Biosphere-Atmosphere-Change indices at the Max Planck Institute in Jena (DE) 4-5th Feb 2019 with Markus Reichstein and Miguel Mahecha from the Empirical Inference of the Earth System research group.
I co-organised the iLEAPS 5th Science Conference at the Saïd Business School in Oxford, U.K., 11-14th September 2017. See my talk here for details (slides 5-7 about my ideas on land surface coupling strength and slides 14-21 describe current progress on the new iLEAPS BASi and component data products).
