A project led by Holger Lange at NIBIO, Norway, working on predictors of soil moisture across a variety of biomes and soil types in Norwegian ecosystems. Collaborators: Jogeir Stokland at NIBIO, Bernhard Ahrens and Marleen Pallandt at Max Planck Institut in Jena, Hanna Lee at Univ. Bergen. In this project we'll be looking in great detail at boreal soils in Norway and aspects of soil carbon dynamics, soil temperature and soil moisture stress (too much and too little moisture). Simulations using NorESM on a 3 km x 3 km grid over Norway will be compared (by me) to JULES runs over the same domain and we want to tackle issues of spatial scale in models and lots of other questions. Should be a really interesting project!
Kick-off meeting was on 7-APR-16 at Lake Hurdal near Oslo. Holger Lange (MOCABORS PI) presented on the project in September 2017 at Lillehammer.
Note this project also overlaps substantially with the scope of the Soil Moisture Stress JPEGroup (see here) and also some aspects of the GEWEX SoilWat initiative.
