Informing land management options for Net Zero+ in Southeast Asia
This 2022-26 project is part of UKCEH's extensive National Capability programme and is being led by UKCEH Edinburgh. Main project webpage: NC-International for NZ+ I am working with partners in SE Asia to make better predictions of peatland and oil palm environments in Indonesia and Malaysia. I am using the JULES land surface model model to predict the consequences of different scenarios of palm oil growth in terms of hydro-resources and carbon stock management. I am in the process of formulating a robust Plant Functional Type (PFT) for oil palm within the JULES model. I will be using this to quantify management options for oil palm plantations in SE Asia. I will also be looking at peatland biomes in Malaysia and Indonesia and working towards a contribution to carbon budget calculations across these land use types in SE Asia more generally. KICK-OFF MEETING: 1-2nd Feb 2023 at UKCEH Edinburgh. Please note that collaborations and integration across this (large) programme is being facilitated via MS Teams spaces and a Sharepoint site, not via a publicly-accessible website (apart from the general one linked above). Main sharepoint site for the project (and see this 12 min video from Oct 2023 featuring Dr Eleanor Blyth explaining what 'National Capability' is). |
